InterTradeIreland’s all-island technology transfer and innovation programme, FUSION, partners companies north and south with a third-level institution providing them with the specialist expertise of a high calibre graduate working directly in the organisation to deliver a new product or process improvement project.
Through the programme, we at Ocean Harvest Technology have benefitted from the services of the University of Ulster and Dr. Simon Faulkner. Simon through the FUSION programme, completed a project focused on creating sustainable fish feed for use in commercial aquaculture.
According to Dr Stefan Kraan, Scientific Director, Ocean Harvest Technology: “Through InterTradeIreland’s FUSION programme we were able to take our project to the next level. Simon was a great asset to the business and instrumental in developing the project. His project has assisted the company to develop new fish food products through the identification and analysis of protein rich seaweeds which should partially replace fish meal in fed aquaculture. Working closely with University of Ulster, Coleraine we received academic support and supervision throughout the duration of the programme. The whole process was worthwhile and I would recommend the InterTradeIreland Fusion programme to any SMEs.”
Simon since this programme completed has become Research and Development Manager of Ocean Harvest Technology and is continuing to pioneer research into new areas and concepts which will directly and positively impact the future of Ocean Harvest Technology.
